Careers Information at Valley College

Valley College employs a Careers Advisor and has access to an external and impartial careers service to provide relevant advice. This is complimented by the individual guidance provided by the Tutors and PACE support staff for all our learners, and by the support from the senior leadership and administrative team in supporting enrolment, on developing individual learner programmes and accreditation, and in accessing relevant work experience opportunities within the community.

The college also holds a Transition Evening and Careers Event during the academic year, details of which will be advertised on our website.

Valley College adheres to the Gatsby Benchmarks of good career guidance as these are identified as being key in:

  • Raising young peoples' aspirations and promoting access to all career pathways;
  • Enabling all young people to develop the skills and outlook they need to achieve career wellbeing, including adaptability and resilience;
  • Underpinning the Department for Education guidance on careers provision.

Valley College, in collaboration with the college Work Placement Co-Ordinator provides learners with an individual programme which includes fully supported work placements both on-site (The Den and The Garage Cafe) and off- site.  This is discussed as part of enrolment onto the appropriate pathway and subsequently as part of the Initial review in the completion of the Aspiration Learning Journey. (see below for example)

The provision of work placements ensures that all learners have the opportunity to explore what work is like, what it takes to be successful in the work place and what it is like to learn in this type of environment.

Our college already has established links with a variety of local businesses and is keen to explore new and exciting opportunities for our learners.
